Group show now up at the Dunn Center in Rocky Mount, NC

I just attended the opening last night of a wonderful show up in the Civic Gallery of the Dunn Center, at Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount. It is benefitting the Friends of Hospice to help people in their final stages of life stay in their homes as long as possible- works by many local artists are up and for sale as well as 8 of my pieces- if you're in Rocky Mount, run by and check em out- and purchase a piece for Christmas! It will be up around a month.

New Work showing now at Adam Cave Fine Art

Hi all. I am back with an ongoing show at Adam Cave Fine Art in Raleigh, NC. It opened on the 10th of October and will run through the middle of November. Check it out here!

Adam Cave group show- Oct 3 opening in Raleigh

I will be in a group show at Adam Cave fine art on Hargett St, in Raleigh, NC. All of the subject matter is specific to Raleigh. I created 5 pieces for the show, 3 of which are shown. I decided to do the carousel at Pullen Park as a nice change of pace from what I normally paint. Check it out if you're in Raleigh over the next month- the opening is from 6-9pm Friday the 3rd, tomorrow y'all!

Checking in

So I've been quiet for the summer, but steadily working. So many ideas and thoughts have surfaced as of late regarding my painting process as well as subject matter. I guess a little update of upcoming events wouldn't hurt either.
  Coming up in a few short weeks, October 3- is the opening of a group show at Adam Cave Fine Art in Raleigh. Myself, Will Goodyear, and David Shingler will be showing paintings specific to the energy and life of the city of Raleigh. My next show will be in January at the college of Louisburg, in Louisburg, NC. It will be coastal scenery, and there will be a lecture involved, ahem! Then in April comes the Beaufort wine and food festival, where I will be the featured artist. Details will follow on all of these, if not here, at least on my website!
   And thought I'd put up this pic, just because I got it back from some wonderful friends and clients to varnish, and I hadn't seen it in a while- Leonard farm, outside of Louisburg, NC 18x24"

Cannon's, South River, NC

Here's a piece that made it into the show at Carteret Contemporary Art, which opened last night, and will run for the next 3 weeks. I have 5 paintings in the group show that explores subjects "Down East". This is the area on hwy 70 past Beaufort, including hamlets like Davis, Stacy, and Atlantic. These villages sit along the Core Banks, reminders of our coasts fishing past.

End of an era

Something made me pull a couple photos of the good ole dinghy dock In Beaufort and paint it. I found out yesterday it's no longer there- replaced by the new state ferry operation. Forever gone is the place for the sailboaters to row in for provisions and where the local kids have cooled off in Taylor's creek for decades. So ends the Beaufort Bustle series- numbers 11 and12... Times they are a changin'

Still working on website, but here's a few

Website a bit more than I thought. Been doing a mix of studio work, on site watercolors, drawings, and larger oils. A fun way to create, but I need to get some work out there! These going to Adam Cave, and Carteret Contemporary Art.

The new computer is in, and I'm figuring it out- new site will begin being worked on over next week or so. But, I can do a few posts on my phone till then!

I am preparing to redo my website, once my new computer arrives- my MacBook from 2006 will no longer allow me to run the site editor. Guess I've gotten all a can from her! 

Cranking it up, been a long cold winter

So I know it has been a very long time since my last post. Technology has got me bent, things aren't operating easily on an 8 year old MacBook with so little memory I struggle to get pictures on there. My phone isn't much better, but am going to make an effort to use it for my blog. Here are 3 pics, all started on site in the last month. I am going out with larger canvases, working on them a few sessions if possible, and finishing them in the studio from sketches or memory. These are 20x30" and are headed over to carteret contemporary art in Morehead city this weekend.

We had a great time in Raleigh at Adam Cave Fine Art Thursday and Friday night. Even sold a few paintings while having so much fun! The show will run through November 5.

October 3 & 4- solo show at Adam Cave Fine Art

Been a while since I've had any time to post. The last several months have been devoted to getting a show together for my return to Raleigh, NC. I'll have 14 new  pieces at Adam Cave Fine Art for the first Friday. It'll run from October 3- November 5. Here are a few paintings that will be there. Come by if you are in the area. We will have a preview opening on Thursday night 6-8pm, and then 6-9pm on Friday night.

Ever totally kill a painting and then attempt to resurrect it? This is it! Destroyed and rebuilt this one more times than I care to think about... Thus "the cat" ( with his 9 lives),or Phoenix as a title- hope I am nearing a finish! The painting will let me know, more to come soon. We are only a little more than a month out from my first show at Adam Cave Fine Art in Raleigh!!

In looking at this painting, I realized I was focusing on too many things, and have begun to repaint, playing subordinate areas down while reinforcing my focal points. Will get better pic tomorrow, once I'm back in the studio. But you can get the gist of what I'm doing. Painting is all about sacrifice- more on that later.
